Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated that the ongoing investigation results regarding the bonfire incident on November 16th on Cousin Road in western Clay County. Listed below are results as of now:

• Five (5) Counts of Aggravated Assault: No Victims or suspects/persons of interest from Clay County. One 14 year old Victim.
• Three (3) vehicles shot
• ATV reported stolen from the party scene.
•  17 year old female Assaulted by two (2) adults over the age of 20
• Deputies reported a victim suffering from a seizure that had delayed treatment due to the blocked roadways.
• Witnesses identified two additional fights involving males and females.
• Initial first responders were unable to access the scene due to congestion from vehicles and pedestrians.
• Witnesses report intermittent gun fire throughout the night that went un addressed by security and not reported to Clay E911
• On scene security reported a failure by performers to shut down when requested.
• The investigation indicates the promoter was in violation of Clay County Ordinance.  

         Sheriff Scott said one of the injured individuals by gunfire had recently been wounded by gunfire in Columbus. Investigators have identified two separate groups: one from Columbus and one from Noxubee County were involved in the shooting. Scott said the trend of these promoted events continue to bring violence from other areas into our county and therefore has suspended all promoted events until the briefing of the Clay County Board of Supervisors. Sheriff Scott stated the safety of all Clay County citizens is first and foremost above any money making event.
